Exhibition Catalogue Péter Lajta “Let Us Add this Bit”
Rooted in the Budapest underground art life of the seventies, Péter Lajtai turned to the new medium based on digital photography with a wide range of experiences behind. His monumental, multi - layered pieces compiled of several visual units seek to find the answers to a number of questions. How can repetitions and minor alterations help show uop what is significant in the unfathomable diversity? What is the relation between the part and the whole? How can a more complex reality be approached by leaving photographs, the true images of reality behind? His Judaica woks search the border between the sacral and the secular setting forth the universal meanings derived from the particular. He achieves all this through his worj which resembles musical composition, and creates not only visual imprints of collective memory but also objects of meditation opening the window into an invisible world thus liberating our individual yet universal feelings.
