Bruno Bourel-English

Bruno Bourel photoexhibition

The Hungarian Jewish Museum and the French Institute have the pleasure of inviting you to an exhibition of photographs at the Rumbach Sebestyén Street Synagogue. This show reveals the everyday lives of a community in a cosmopolitan city, as well as the many sides of Jewish culture in Hungary. Visitors will be treated to unfamiliar scenes set in familiar places.
The photos of Bruno Bourel are accompanied by the richly associative writings of Péter Závada, in both prose and poetry.

"These are probably the most colorful black-and-white photographs ever made about kosher supervisors, butchers, cantors, and simple pine-board coffins.
All in black and white -- like the dreams of a hound.
It's safe to say that each of us is light-sensitive in our own way."
                                                                       -Péter Závada
Opening: July 8, 2010, at 6:00 pm
The opening will be hosted by the architect Anna Perczel.
